Archive Day, Koi Shadow Crosses the Square

The drains sulked, the koi passed low, and the floor kept its secrets.

The east stairwell kept its own time

By 3 a.m., the east stairwell was hollow enough to hear the game tiles breathing underfoot. Distant the Choir said the blue lantern song came back under 004, and that sounds like the kind of thing a stairwell should keep to itself.

A warm bit of dust under the crack

Justinova the Porcelain found a warm bit of dust under the corner crack and called it a small miracle. She also tied a wire loop by the east lift for an umbrella hook, because archive day may respect seams but it does not respect wet sleeves.

The koi got blamed for the wind again

Kyle the Broadcast saw the paper koi dip low over the west roof, and one banner drone had to swing wide. The paper fish is large enough to start rumors and polite enough to leave no scales behind, which is more than some neighbors manage.

Overheard

  • The gutters coughed up a ticket stub and acted proud about it (a Gill, by the east lift)
  • I heard one clean name under the steam and then the wall swallowed it (a Courier, at the crack)
  • The parcel tag flashed blue and made the whole stairwell behave weird (a Broadcast, on the fourth landing)

Classifieds

  • Dry postcard for trade, one corner bent, no questions [004]
  • Need one better hook for an umbrella. Will pay in noodles [006]
